Costs associated with climate declarations
It is difficult to make an estimate on what it costs to produce a climate declaration. There are several reasons. If the product category rules (PCR) is missing for the product to be declared, these must be developed. It is made by the organisation that is developing the climate declaration or EPD. IEC can provide some guidance along the way and it is free to finally register a PCR.
The collection of data and calculations require some work. The work needed and costs vary depending on to which extent data is available and the experience of LCA-work within the organisation.
Certain cost is associated with the verification. The data in the climate declaration must be verified by a third party before it can be registered. There are both accredited certification bodies and approved individual verifies that can verify climate declarations. Contact information is available here.
Registration and annual fee
Registration of a climate declaration costs €1000. The price also includes the registration of a possible EPD for the same product. Registration of several climate declarations at the same time will cost less per climate declaration, 2 costs €1500 and 3-4 costs €2000. There is also an annual fee of €1000 for SMEs and €2500 for large organisations for each year that the company has the climate declaration and environmental product declarations registered.
