Is a full EPD required?

No, to register a climate declaration it is not compulsory to register an EPD. However, there is a requirement that other environmental information about the product must be available on request. The reason is that a climate declaration only accounts for a part of the environmental impacts during the life cycle of a product or service. In some cases, the main environmental impacts could be connected to other issues than global warming potential.

Credibility and transparency are two important guiding principles of the International EPD®system. Therefore, this requirement applies when registering a climate declaration. The requirement can be fulfilled by making information in background reports available on request.
